Cassie’s Story – Page 6

On June 01, 2022 – Just after 9:00 am I call the veterinarian Bassem Boctor – St. Catharines Animal Hospital to explain that since the day before, Cassie has been peeing a lot, and today was the same thing but it appeared now that nothing was coming out.

I was scheduled to bring in a second Cassie urine sample in 3 days on June 04, 2022 as Cassie would have been done her over priced Botyel tablets.

The receptionist placed me on hold for approximately 2 minutes to go to discuss with veterinarian Bassem Boctor about the current emergency with Cassie. The receptionist returned to the call and said they could ONLY fit Cassie in at 3:45 pm. I explained that I don’t get done work until 4:00 pm and would have to go home to get Cassie and would be there around 4:20 pm.

That was not good enough for them as they explained that they would not do any other time then 3:45 pm. Since veterinarian Bassem Boctor and his receptionist were firm in their position that it was 3:45 pm TIME SLOT or I would have to wait until the next day. I was forced to delay Cassie getting an medical attention until the following day, June 02, 2022 at 5:15 pm.

It appeared that the receptionist and veterinarian Bassem Boctor clearly did not understanding the serious of Cassie’s situation. Between the relaxed, I don’t give a shit demeanor of the receptionist, and veterinarian Bassem Boctor lack of understanding or concern for Cassie’s emergency predicament. There was absolutely no concern or interested by either on of them in Cassie’s immediate well-being. s I said it was 3:45 pm or nothing!

Apparently if your pet is literally only hours away from potentially dying. Veterinarian Bassem Boctor – St. Catharines Animal Hospital DO NOT CARE and will NOT CREATE any extra openings or try to accommodate a time for you and your pet and their medical emergency.

It is a good thing that hospitals here in Canada have a priority system in place. Obviously any medical issues that are life threatening or children, always, and should, take priority or superficial wounds and upset stomachs in the emergency room. It appears that this same priority for animals does not apply for veterinarian Bassem Boctor – St. Catharines Animal Hospital.

It is a strict first come, first serve basis!

Apparently Cassie’s 2 days of not peeing, were NOT urgent enough to squeeze her in as a emergency when I was able to run home to get her and bring down. Or for them to have to wait a whole 25 minutes to get their money for caring for her.

I guess the little old lady who need her cats nails trimmed or hat prescription refilled, or that general exam of a dog takes priority over a dog who might be slowly dying due to kidney failure!

I know that if veterinarian Bassem Boctor – St. Catharines Animal Hospital would have called me to cancel or change my time because of someone’s pet was in need of emergency attention. I would always be more then willing to give up my spot. Any pet owner who loves their pets understand this philosophy and would do the same for them, as they would expect the same courtesy in return if the time every arised for their pet.

But it appears to me that the receptionist did not and could not be bothered to try and reschedule any previous appoints for Cassie after 4:00 pm, hence that is why they refused to try and accommodate myself for any other time that would realistically work for me to get Cassie to their office so they could assess the medical emergency.

veterinarian Bassem Boctor – St. Catharines Animal Hospital attitude was..

Later that day my daughter dropped by to check on Cassie before she went to work. She called me to extremely scared to explain that Cassie was behaving very odd and appeared to be very, very uncomfortable. She had escalated in her attempts to try and pee and still nothing was coming out. I did some quick research online about this topic and learned that this was in fact a very serious situation and could become deadly for Cassie or any human who could not pee wіthіn three dауѕ оf ѕуmрtоmѕ.

Referencing back to veterinarian Bassem Boctor – St. Catharines Animal Hospital website where he states:

“If thе {pet} dоеѕ nоt receive mеdісаl trеаtmеnt, rеnаl fаіlurе can dеvеlор, whісh саn be lіfе threatening wіthіn three dауѕ оf ѕуmрtоmѕ.”

I spent the next 15 minutes researching renal failure ( Kidney Failure) and learned…

Acute renal failure is the sudden and often temporary loss of kidney function. It is a condition that develops rapidly over the course of several hours or days. As the kidneys stop functioning, waste products meant to be filtered from the blood begin to accumulate, setting off a cascade of symptoms including decreased urination, nausea, fatigue, shortness of breath, and swelling due to the retention of fluid. Some cases will only have subtle symptoms that are barely felt whereas more serious may be severe and life-threatening. Toxic overload occurs when poisons reach your body’s limit and ability to remove them.

After reading this, I immedatley called veterinarian Bassem Boctor – St. Catharines Animal Hosptial and explained the situation as I was extremely worried for Cassie’s health and medical situation. My daughter was not going to go to work and I explained to the repetionist that she would walk Cassie over at the agreed time of now 3:15 pm and I would leave work at 4:00 pm and would be ther immedaltey after to pay the bill just after 4:00 pm.

The receptionist explained that this does not work for veterinarian Bassem Boctor as if payment can not be obtained immediately following the appointment, that Cassie could not be brought in to be examined. I again tried to get the appointment extend until at least 4:00 pm or afterwards so I could close the now 45 minutes time gap. And the receptionist explained that the only time they were willing to see Cassie now was 3:15 pm, period!

Calculating the time of the appointment being at 3:15 pm. My daughter and Cassie probably would have walked out of veterinarian Bassem Boctor – St. Catharines Animal Hosptial examination room around 3:30 pm to 3:45 pm.

As I was done work at 4:00 pm, I would have been at veterinarian Bassem Boctor – St. Catharines Animal Hospital no later then 4:10 pm, as I was less the 3 km away on Cushman Road.

Veterinarian Bassem Boctor and his receptionist were not willing to wait no more then 25 minutes to get their money, despite knowing the seriousness of Cassie potential medical emergency.

It was clear that Cassie had now started acquiring symptoms of renal failure ( Kidney Failure) the day before and as a veterinarian, Bassem Boctor should have understood this and the seriousness of it, and the eventual outcome if not treated with in three days of symptoms.

“If thе {pet} dоеѕ nоt receive mеdісаl trеаtmеnt, rеnаl fаіlurе can dеvеlор, whісh саn be lіfе threatening wіthіn three dауѕ оf ѕуmрtоmѕ.”

And still veterinarian Bassem Boctor was not willing to work with our family because he ASSUMED that we were going to steal his service for our Cassie. Veterinarian Bassem Boctor decided to forget and consider the fact that we had just spent under $600 12 days earlier at his St. Catharines Animal Hospital without issue.

Did Veterinarian Bassem Boctor now decided to ASSUME that our family could not be trusted to pay our bills/debt, because I was not suppose to get paid until the following day on Friday.

I guess veterinarian Bassem Boctor, who makes approximately $5,000,000 a year, believes that only he can have money put away for other things.

Maybe it was because my (employed) wife who is Black, made veterinarian Bassem Boctor ASSUME that we could not afford to pay our bills/debts on time, in 25 minutes?

Maybe veterinarian Bassem Boctor assumed that since he knew I was working, he ASSUMED my wife was some stereotyped black women who did not have a job. Therefore we lived on one income and that is why he ASSUMED that we could not afford to pay our bills/debts on time, in 25 minutes?

I have no idea why it is that veterinarian Bassem Boctor felt the need to ASSUME that our family were a bunch of dead beat paymasters? But it was clear from his actions and words that the money in his pocket was far more important to him then our Cassie’s health and medical emergency!

Let us remember that veterinarian Bassem Boctor stated on his website “If thе {pet} dоеѕ nоt receive mеdісаl trеаtmеnt, rеnаl fаіlurе can dеvеlор, whісh саn be lіfе threatening wіthіn three dауѕ оf ѕуmрtоmѕ.” and Cassie’s clock was ticking and by this point 30 hours of her estimated 72 had already been used up.

According to veterinarian Bassem Boctor and his St. Catharines Animal Hospital website, Cassie was running out of time fast, and he wanted to use up another 24 hours before finally deciding to see Cassie, because HE WAS WAITING FOR ME TO GET PAID?

Veterinarian Bassem Boctor own words to myself “no buddy allows payment plans”

It appears that waiting 25 minutes to get paid is consider part of a “buddy plan” to veterinarian Bassem Boctor.

Why did veterinarian Bassem Boctor ASSUME that we did not have money to pay that same day? I explained the timeline for the payment to his receptionist. 25 minutes.

My daughter was willing to sit at the office and wait with Cassie for me to arrive by 4:10 pm. But again that would have been construed as being a “buddy plan” and was not acceptable by veterinarian Bassem Boctor. As the appoint was at 3:15 pm and not 4:10 pm.

At that point I decided that Cassie did not have hours, let alone days to wait. That if any human being was to walk into a hospital and state that they have not pee’d for the last 30 hours, while despite trying, they would IMMEDATLEY be admitted into the emergency room to be assessed and provided the emergency medical services needed. PERIOD!
